Five million children in the United States have at least one parent who is undocumented. Although the majority of these children are American citizens, they are suffering the effects of immigration policies and the tighter enforcement climate of recent times. Thousands of children have been separated from their parents due to mass deportations, resulting in dire consequences for families, neighbors, schools, and entire communities. This presentation will address how undocumented Latinos are faring given the heightened anti-immigrant climate in this country. Speakers will focus on the educational and mental health challenges of undocumented youth, protective factors that promote resilience, and recommendations for professionals who work with this population in the educational system. Sponsored by the Office of Faculty Affairs, this workshop will be relevant to faculty at SFSU regarding their teaching of undocumented students. Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome to drop in and join this conversation! Sandwiches and drinks will be provided for those who register at power.sfsu.edu or email ctfd@sfsu.edu but you must register by May 10 to reserve a free lunch. Drop-in attendees are welcome. If you need accommodations for this event, please contact x82204 .
