Jose Antonio Vargas, senior contributing editor at the Huffington Post and Austin Long-Scott, retiring professor of journalism at SF State will be honored with the Center's Founder's Awards. Jose was a student in our 1998 Bay Area Multicultural Media Academy and went on to win a Pulitzer Prize while at the Washington Post. He is the co-producer and writer of The Other City, a film inspired by his stories from The Washington Post about HIV/AIDS in Washington, D.C. He will be in conversation with retiring professor Austin Long-Scott. Austin was the first African American reporter hired full time for the Associated Press, and was the chair of CIIJ's advisory board for five years. Austin is currently working on a book about his life as a member of the second generation of African American journalists to integrate mainstream newsrooms. Long-Scott was on the national staff covering poverty and race relations and was also a White House correspondent at the Washington Post from 1972 - 1978.
