Author Nicole Brun-Mercer reads from her novel "The Golden Ring", based on her two years spent living in Vladimir, Russia. The novel follows Eva, an American woman in her twenties, who is thrown into the wilds of contemporary Russia when she goes in search of her twin, Laura. Befriended by an economics professor who makes ends meet as the mistress of a nouveau riche businessman, Eva follows her sister's trail from Moscow to Saint Petersburg, then into Russia's historic Golden Ring, encountering along the way Laura's would-be fiance, a gallant mafia underling and a host of other colorful characters, each more suspicious than the last in their unconcealed attempts to either help or hinder Eva's quest. About the author: Nicole Brun-Mercer was born in Canada and raised in California, graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz and did postgraduate study in conference interpretation at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. After teaching English for two years at the American Home in Vladimir, Russia, she now lives in Haute Savoie, France.
